Resisting oil and gas extractivism in Nigeria

For many decades, the oil and gas extractivism in Nigeria is causing environmental devastation and violent conflicts. In this video, Nnimmo Bassey explains the strategies of resistance against powefull international companies and how environmental and social remediation can be done.
Climate Change also effects Nigeria, forcing the displacement of people. Because of this, the central political demands of Nnimmo Bassey are: „Environmental misbehavior has to stop. Leave the oil in the ground!“. Instead he recomends a quick transformation to renewable energy.

Nnimmo Bassey is a Nigerian architect, environmental activist, author and poet, who chaired Friends of the Earth International from 2008 to 2012 and was Executive Director of Environmental Rights Action for two decades. He holds the Right Livelihood Award.
